Galaxy
subtitled an illustrated magazine of entertaining reading at its launch, this periodical began in May 1866, published twice a month (1st and 15th), and went monthly from May 1867; it was absorbed into the Atlantic monthly from February 1878; the editor through its run seems to have been the co-founder William C. Church, although publication matters were soon taken over by Sheldon and Company
James was an occasional contributor, usually of his less favoured work, from A day of days in the fourth number to the travel-piece Paris revisited in the final one.
