a fictional theatre which, judging by its name, is not situated in the up-market Strand or Piccadilly areas; most theatres, and music-halls too of course, had a permanent orchestra in the late nineteenth century

(the present day Bloomsbury Theatre dates from 1968, as the Collegiate Theatre, attached to University College London, and acquired it current name in 1982)
