Monsieur Adolphe Thiers (1797-1877); in February 1871 he was elected ‘Head of the executive power’ of the Third Republic to negotiate the peace-treaty with Bismarck, ending the Franco-Prussian war; he was in power until May 1873, overseeing the crushing of the Paris Commune in 1871
