Saint-Germain-en-Laye

now a suburb of Paris, James stayed in this village to the west of Paris for some days while new rooms at 29 Rue de Luxembourg were prepared (his previous set there having been let inadvertently during his holiday in south-west France!); records show that it was in late September that he was able to move back to the centre of Paris
