Fox Warren

presumably Foxwarren Park, near Cobham, Surrey; built in 1855 for Charles Buxton (1823-1871), East Anglian brewer, sportsman and M.P., to his own designs (with the assitance of Frederick Barnes of Ipswich): I haven’t yet established who lived there at the time of James’s visit in 1893 but its unrelieved red-brick and terracotta form was presumably still stuffed with Victorian bric-a-brac
