the Osgood edition appeared a month earlier than the Macmillan, on 1884-01-17 and was printed by John Wilson and Son, The University Press, Cambridge, Mass. – it retailed at $1·50; the Macmillan, which was issued on 1884-11-81 at 4/6, was printed by R. &R. Clark in Edinburgh; each edition comprised 1500 copies

note that the order of the tales was different in the two editions, although I have been unable to discover why : possibly James felt that British readers would be more receptive to the story set partly in London and therefore relegated the New York one to last place, promoting Lady Barb?
